Temat: Jarosław Kaczyński: To sprawa pana Tuska
Hi, Rooboy

I will be brief.

1. You did say in one of your posts something about corruption within PO. So far
none has been found. Read today's news from Poland.

I quote: ". ultimately tusk and tusk alone is
responsible for the widespread corruption within his government and
his inability to address this situation confirms that he is a poor
manager ..."

Rooboy, there is no corruption in the PO government.

2. I am not a PR man for PO. Rooboy relax. This forum is now read by just the
two of us, I reckon. What we write is of no interest or importance to anybody.
Do you really think that any decision makers are reading the "GW" forums? Most
unlikely. So I will not pass on to Mr Tusk your advice, which you have so
generously given free of charge.

3. Are you saying that Poland is not ready for a civilised and independent
public television service? Why not? Do you not think that PiS has done enough
damage to the process of Polish democratisation?

4. I do not understand your views on nationality.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates fired the F-35 Joint Strike
Fighter program manager Feb. 1, saying someone must be held
accountable for the program's delays and cost overruns

Late last year, an internal Pentagon report showed the new
stealth fighter was so far behind schedule that DoD would have to
spend as much as $16.6 billion to get its largest weapons program
back on track.

The sacking of manager Dan, is by far the worst solution for Wisla Krakow. Here
is a man that makes these so called players work hard at training, has no stars
thus rotates players as their, and although had been given limited resources to
work with he strung a team together that came out 2nd during last season.
Now on the brink of a second game with, that Greek team which I do not know the
name of they decide to let him go.
Looking at it there is no stability in the club, the owner should leave the as
he has very little idea about running a team, and what's involved in getting a
team to play well.
Anyway their my ideas, sorry to see Dan go, I really am.

I need people for the Katowice office, and we are going to spend at least 75%

Temat: Jarosław Kaczyński: To sprawa pana Tuska
so, you do agree with me on tusk after all...
despite your suggestions to differ, i sense that you notice tusk's
shortcomings in his management abilities, particularly people
management... you say that to your liking he has been far too mellow
in his approach to his ministers... so, he's either a good people
manager or far too mellow, you can't have both at the same time.
with being far too mellow i fully agree which is not to say that i
withdraw my previous comments about managing his ministers by public
threats and public humiliation. both these traits of his are typical
(in my opinion) for the polish person in general. everything is
either white or black, they do not see much in-between. his
mellowness is for a reason though, he wants to preserve his "mr nice
guy" image until the presidential elections in 12 months or so and
he needs to juggle it with the heavy approach to ensure that he does
not start to be seen as a toothless tiger oir a gummy shark...
difficult act, i must say... from my experience, maintaining a
steady line of being firm but fair pays far better dividends than
jumping from one extreme to the other...

let me go further... he's not only lacking in people management
skills, his team selection decisions leave a lot to be desired, too.
couple of examples... sacking one of a few (if not the only one)
professionals from his team (cwiakalski) was a really bad one,
although it was immediately "bettered" by a really disastrous one in
promoting czuma (who is finally gone as i understand)... pitera has
done sfa during the last two years in office... the list could go
on, but i'm running out of time for this morning, so i have to stop
it there...

just a quick request for advice from an expert.... niedawno na tym
blad ortograficzny, a jesli juz to grzecznosciowo/stylistyczny,
poradzono mi, abym juz sie wiecej nie kompromitowal. czy pisanie na
tym forum ty z malej to faktycznie blad ortograficzny???

look froward to your advice on the above. while on this subject,
lower or upper case, any progress with the english i or are you
satisfied that it's all due to medieval scribes???

take care and don't do anything i wouldn't do

Ok, I do accept that and you're not far off.
Company (with few regional branches and factory) employs approx. 150
people. And you are right about buying/selling process it is not that sophisticated (but dues the job). On the other hand... "Big company
with more advanced purchasing/selling process" It is just a process
and a way of doing things... not a value of and employee in it
self... (created to help and improve quality of work) If "their"
people are using it, it means it can be learned :-)

Going back to experience.
I have an additional 5 years of experience in a similar company (as
regional manager) and additional 6 years, in a UK equivalent to one
of our DIY networks of shops "from Zero to Hero" :-) (from a sales
assistant to branch manager). Again I was paid to run to whole show -
purchasing, selling, displays, suppliers, customers, etc.

And, yes, looking at your propositions I am underpaid :-( This means
I need to keep looking... my new job "is out there..." :-)

Cheers!

Z cosmeticnews.com:

"French crystal maker Lalique is adding a fruity scent to its portfolio, with
the feminine fragrance Amethyst. The brand hopes its new launch will
consolidate its growth in fragrance. “Our latest three launches, Le Parfum,
Perles [for women] and Encre Noire [for men] already represent over 60% of
Lalique Parfums turnover”, Lalique president Olivier Mauny tells
CosmeticNews. “The fragrance activity represents 18% of Lalique total sales
and it tends to grow.”

Nathalie Lorson of Swiss flavors and fragrance company Firmenich created
Amethyst, a fruity musk juice. Its top note of blackcurrant and blackberry
continues with a floral bouquet and ends with notes of vanilla and musk. It
comes in a heavy glass bottle (Pochet), engraved with thorns. “The success of
our new products is due to their high positioning. We have crystal flacons
and [quite expensive] juices. Compared to others, it seems that
proportionally we invest far more in the product than in its communication,”
Mauny points out.
The line comprises a crystal bottle with a 50ml recharge and a funnel (€550),
EdPs (€72 for a 100ml and €52 for a 50ml) and a body lotion (€33, 200ml).

Amethyst will launch in September in Europe and the Middle East and in late
2008 in the United States. “The US currently represents 3% of our fragrance
activity and it should grow to 12-15% in the near future,” Lalique Parfums
general manager Dominique Daviaud explains. “Selective Beauty’s US subsidiary
is in charge of Lalique Parfums distribution since July. They will push
Lalique sales in its 150 US doors.”

Among other changes, Lalique Parfums has just hired French company P&B Euro
Beauty Agency to distribute its fragrances in France. “Time was hard for us
in France in 2006 because chains are taking more and more importance in the
market and independent perfumeries, which sell most of our crystal editions,
are less and less numerous,” explains Daviaud. Before that Lalique had its
own sales team in France."

przemknął koncert innego LEGENDARNEGO zespołu - Manhattan Transfer.

Tego samego, który poraził w swoim czasie świat (przynajmniej Europę
i USA) megahitem "Chanson D'Amour"

Na stronce fanklubu znalazłem historyjkę, jak doszło do nagrania
tego nietypowego BARDZO dla zespołu kawałka:

Despite the conflict of interest between the group and their manager, Alan also pointed out the album was the one that broke the group in Europe with "Chanson d'Amour." The song exploded across Europe and maintained the #1 spot in Great Britain for three weeks and was also at #1 in Paris. In a 1977 interview, Alan talked about the day they recorded their hit: "The song was written in 1957. We'd been recording all day and we hadn't gotten that far. Just as we were about to leave, Laurel shouted, 'Hey wait a minute, I've got an idea.' She used an Edith Piaf sound in her voice and we recorded it in one take. She wanted to get a romantic French feel behind it." The success in Europe also helped them gain larger audiences and more recognition in the United States."

Guerlain Scent Selling Well

NEW YORK — It’s barely out of the starting gate in the U.S., but Guerlain is
feeling as if it might have a hit on its hands with its latest men’s scent.
The “luminous woody” fragrance — L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme — bowed
globally in September with the exception of the U.S. Since mid-October, the
scent has been previewing exclusively at Neiman Marcus. And so far, it’s
looking good.

“We’re way over plan — more than double what we expected,” said Gilles
Dougoud, general manager of Guerlain and Parfums Givenchy, who declined to be
more specific. As reported, industry sources forecast a first-year global
volume of $20 million wholesale for the fragrance, 20 percent of which is
expected to come from U.S. sales.

If all goes as expected, the venerable fragrance house just might achieve its
stated goal for L’Instant: to galvanize its men’s business. Although Guerlain
offers a substantial array of men’s scents, only two — 39-year-old Habit
Rouge and 45-year-old Vetiver — are true players.

In January, the scent will begin to roll out, finding its way to 400 doors by
March. The distribution lineup includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom,
Bloomingdale’s, Sephora, Barneys, Lord & Taylor and selected Marshall
Field’s.

According to Dougoud, Guerlain will advertise the scent in spring books — as
soon as it settles on the visual. Evidently the slightly racy image developed
for the European campaign just might not play in Peoria. The visual, which
picks up where the campaign for the women’s version of L’Instant leaves off,
features model Sergio Muniz stroking model Ingrid Parewijck’s back. Shot from
the side, it bares a fair amount of Parewijck’s decidedly curvy figure.

“The question is whether we dare use the existing visual or shoot something
more masculine,” said Dougoud. “I have to say that if we decide to go with
something more masculine, it will go against my own sensibility. But that’s
just me.” — Dana Wood

...amino acids
Cold, smog and tar ... life on Titan could be sticky
By Richard Macey
January 12, 2005
*

No one knows if it will land with a thud, a splash or a squish.

Late tomorrow, Sydney time, a man-made meteor will streak across the orange-
brown sky of Titan, the largest moon of Saturn.

After travelling more than seven years and 3.5 billion kilometres, Europe's
Huygens spacecraft will parachute to the first touchdown on another planet's
natural satellite.

If Titan were a planet, instead of a moon, it would probably have received far
more attention from Hollywood.

Almost as big as Mars, it is the only moon in our solar system with a dense
atmosphere, a thick coat of nitrogen - the gas that makes up about 78 per cent
of the air we breathe.

Some scientists believe Titan resembles the Earth of billions of years ago,
before life began. The temperature is minus 180 degrees, too cold for water or
water vapour. Instead, Titan's sky is laced with dense clouds of methane,
which, combined with sunlight, gives the planet its orange-brown hue.

The clouds may be fed by evaporation from methane-rich lakes refilled by "rain"
and even "hail". Huygens has been built to float, just in case it splashes down
and becomes the first interplanetary boat. "Titan has very strong winds, so
there may be waves on these lakes," said the Huygens mission operations
manager, Claudio Sollazzo, of the European Space Agency, who added that landing
on a lake would provide "nicer shots for our cameras" and prove Titan was
a "fun place to be".

Other scientists suspect the surface may be dry or covered in a tar-like goo
formed by billions of years of chemical reactions. Such tar may contain amino
acids, the building blocks of proteins that are essential for life.

If Huygens survives, it could operate for up to 30 minutes before its
mothership, NASA's Cassini spacecraft, in orbit around Saturn and acting as a
relay satellite, passes out of range.

Walking on Titan would be like strolling at the bottom of a swimming pool
because its atmosphere is four times denser than Earth's and it has only a
seventh of the gravity,

"Running might be difficult," writes Ralph Lorenz and Jacqueline Mitton, in
Lifting Titan's Veil, a book on the mission. But "Titan could be just the place
to learn to fly ... With wings a few metres across, a human could flap into the
air and fly at least a short distance."

Dear Mr Joderski,

We would like to inform you that GÜRIS has been performing his duties and
obligations in accordance
with the Contract signed between GÜRIS and ARM (Agencja Rozwoju Miasta).

However, we would like to remind you that GÜRIS is not the only party who has
responsibilities but
there are also the duties and the obligations of ARM under the Contract. So
far, ARM failed to
fulfill some of his obligations.

However, these facts are being ignored or disregarded by ARM and have not been
delivered to the
public. ARM, who has been the main source for the media, presented the matters
from his own
perspective. For this reason, the public is lacking sufficient and objective
information, since
GÜRIS has been unable to reflect the facts and figures about the project
through the media.

Finally, as ARM failed to perform another one of his obligations despite our
numerous requests and
notifications since October 2004, we were unfortunately forced to reduce the
rate of work or stop at
all in some areas according to the Contract since long time.

Nevertheless, GÜRIS is willing and hoping to continue the Works and complete
the Project next year.
The talks have been going on between ARM and GÜRIS to resolve the outstanding
issues. We hope that
ARM will change his approach and will assist GÜRIS to finish this difficult
task on time.

Please note that you can also get into contact with ARM, as the responsible
party, to find out their
tendency for the future of the works.

Shuttle Team Sought Satellite Assessment of Liftoff Damage
By EDWARD WONG

wo or three days after the space shuttle Columbia's liftoff, a group of NASA
engineers asked the shuttle program manager to request the aid of United States
spy satellites in determining the extent of debris damage to the shuttle's left
wing, but the manager declined to do so, a senior NASA official said yesterday.
The official said the satellites would "absolutely" have helped the engineers
measure any damage to the wing's protective heat tiles from debris slamming
into them about 81 seconds after liftoff on Jan. 16.

He said Lambert Austin, an engineer at Johnson Space Center in Houston, had
asked Ron D. Dittemore, the shuttle program manager, in a group meeting to
obtain satellite images to help gauge the damage. Mr. Dittemore turned down the
request, even though Mr. Austin was also speaking for several other engineers,
the official said.

Mr. Austin and his colleagues were disappointed, the official said, especially
because they believed Mr. Dittemore did not have the technical knowledge of
imagery to determine whether the images would have been helpful.

Mr. Austin declined yesterday to comment.

Mr. Dittemore also would not comment, but a NASA spokesman said yesterday that
Mr. Dittemore and other officials had decided that satellite images would not
necessarily help determine damage.

It is unclear how Mr. Austin's request was related to another NASA request for
imagery made around the same time to Defense Department officials, and later
withdrawn via an e-mail message, which NASA publicly released last month.

The senior official also said some NASA engineers were now questioning whether
the debris actually came from the large external fuel tank. The engineers are
scrutinizing the solid rocket boosters to see whether the debris could have
originated there, he said.

While the shuttle was in orbit, five Boeing engineers concluded in a report to
NASA that the debris impact had not caused serious damage based on the
assumption, now perhaps faulty, that the debris was a chunk of foam insulation
from the external tank.

A central question in the investigation of the Columbia's break-up on Feb. 1 is
whether the National Aeronautics and Space Agency and its contractors had
enough information to accurately assess the tile damage. Many experts say
damage from the debris may have weakened the wing and is the most obvious
possible root cause of the accident, though there are many suspects.

A reconnaissance satellite could have been used to capture images of the tiles.
Shortly after the Columbia accident, when aerospace experts outside NASA asked
why the agency had not sought satellite assistance, Mr. Dittemore said such
images might not have been sharp enough.

But the senior NASA official, who agreed to talk on the condition that his name
not be used, said: "When a group of engineers puts forward a request, they're
not doing it for grins and giggles. Within their minds, they thought that was a
path that would resolve some final concerns. I don't know if it was a cost
issue, a timing issue. I don't know if assets could not be arranged."

The official added, "If they had done that, we might know something."

It is unclear whether even a better determination of the tile damage would have
helped NASA bring the astronauts home safely.

James Hartsfield, a NASA spokesman, said yesterday that there were discussions
in the days after liftoff on whether to obtain satellite imagery. Officials
decided not to, he said, because they were satisfied with the Boeing analysis
and, as Mr. Dittemore indicated, they questioned the usefulness of the images
that satellites would provide.

Mr. Hartsfield said someone at NASA did make an early request for imagery to
the Defense Department. But he said that request, which "was not coordinated
with the rest of the flight operations world," was withdrawn by another NASA
official, Roger D. Simpson.

Mr. Hartsfield said he did not know who had made the request to the Defense
Department. The National Reconnaissance Office, the government's main operator
of spy satellites, is chartered under the Defense Department. The senior NASA
official familiar with Mr. Austin's request said that as far as he knew, Mr.
Austin did not contact a department official directly and dropped his request
after Mr. Dittemore denied it.

"In men’s, “our John Varvatos and [Ralph Lauren] Purple Label businesses
continue to be fabulous,” Oldham remarked, adding that “classics are our
heritage and that [classics] business continues to do very well, especially
Chanel, Hermès, Dior Classics, Sisley’s Eau de Soir, Guerlain and [Thierry
Mugler’s] Angel.

“For Christmas,” said Oldham, “we are dramatically reducing our sets as we
focus on perfumes and personalized sets designed by Saks.”

Prada was also a winner at Bergdorf Goodman. “Prada has been off the charts,”
said Muriel Gonzalez, senior vice president and general merchandise manager at
Bergdorf Goodman. “It’s been the best fragrance launch we’ve ever had — for an
individual fragrance.

“We are very pleased with the results,” she continued. “The scent is really a
winner. It’s a beautiful Oriental fragrance with a lot of modernity to it. The
Prada name is one that resonates with our customers.”

Gonzalez added that the retailer has “a great day-to-day” business with Jo
Malone.

As the holiday season approaches, Gonzalez said, “We’re looking forward to it.
We’ve seen tremendous growth in the treatment part of our business. We think it
will continue throughout the fall season. It’s always been a strength over the
past years.” Through the holiday period, skin care could even outpace the rest
of the department, she noted.

Gonzalez attributed growth in treatment to the availability of “many high-
quality, high-performance-benefit products.” She noted that, “Number one,
there’s La Mer — that continues to be strong.” She also pointed to La Prairie,
Sisley and Clé de Peau. “They have really been our standouts,” she said.

In September, Holt Renfrew launched YSL Cinema at its Bloor Street store in
Toronto, and Shelley Rozenwald, senior vice president of cosmetics, skin care,
fragrance and beauty services, noted, “It has exceeded expectations.” The
retailer is also launching Max Mara, and “the initial response is very good,”
she noted, with up to a 30 percent sell-through rate already, the bulk of which
occurred during a pre-sell period.

Burberry’s Brit for Men, which Holt Renfrew launched in August, is “doing very
well,” as is Donna Karan’s Be Delicious, which the retailer launched earlier
this month. Among existing scents, Jo Malone is a “big” performer.

Holt Renfrew could experience double-digit increases on both the men’s and
women’s sides of the business, compared with last fall. John Varvatos’
signature scent is doing “very well,” noted Rozenwald.

Jon Pollack, executive vice president and general merchandise manager at Belk,
said, “It’s been a terrific launch season so far across the board. Ladies’
fragrances for the last five weeks have experienced double-digit increases,
which is very exciting.

“It’s newness [in everything],” Pollack said, discussing what’s driving the
business. He noted, “Celebrity newness is an extra added attraction but it’s
not the whole story — a lot of the launches have been powerful and existing
business has had lifts, notably [Donna Karan’s] Cashmere Mist and Chanel. The
whole Chanel franchise has been strong this fall, as has Givenchy’s Very
Irresistible.” In addition, “we’re about to launch [Donna Karan’s] Be
Delicious.

“Runaway hits” include Britney Spears, Pollack said, describing it as “huge.”
He’s also “very excited” about Lauren Style, True Star, Giorgio Armani’s Armani
Mania, Liz Claiborne Realities and Oscar de la Renta’s Rosamor.

Existing scents have been driven, in part, by “outstanding” cooperative
marketing efforts with vendors, Pollack noted. “We’ve done a lot to get scent
out and that’s working,” he remarked, pointing to scented blow-ins and inserts
in store publications and national magazines.

Pollack maintains that the women’s fragrance business could grow by a high-
single-digit rate this fall, compared with this time last year. “We’re back in
the game,” he said with tempered optimism. "

MUNICH, Germany (AFP) - BMW-Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld ended speculation of a
possible transfer by signing a two-year contract extension on Tuesday which will
keep him with the German team until 2009.

The team also said they were retaining Polish driver Robert Kubica, who survived
an horrific crash in Montreal in June.

Heidfeld, 30, is now expected to finish his career with BMW-Sauber and will earn
a reported salary of five million euros on top of his win bonuses and has an
option to extend his contract until 2010.

"Quick Nick" had been offered the opportunity to drive for Honda.

"BMW has always been our desired team and negotiations with them were our
priority," Heidfeld's manager Werner Heinz told German agency SID.

"So we are glad he will stay with BMW."

LONDON (Reuters) - Germany's Nick Heidfeld and Poland's Robert Kubica will
continue as BMW Sauber drivers next year, the Formula One team said on Tuesday.

"Both Nick and Robert have delivered very strong performances in the course of
this season," said team boss Mario Theissen in a statement before this weekend's
Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul.

"They have played a decisive role in enabling the BMW Sauber F1 team to firmly
establish itself as the third best team in Formula One."

Heidfeld, 30, and Kubica, 22, have scored 71 points between them this season
with BMW now 38 points clear of fourth placed Renault in the constructors'
championship.

Heidfeld is fifth in the drivers' standings with 42 points and there was no
surprise in the Swiss-based team confirming the line-up.

Theissen said Heidfeld had made a substantial contribution while Kubica, in his
first full season, was a real talent for the future.

"In his brief Formula One career so far he has established himself as equal to
Nick. He is extremely fast and, for somebody so young, already has a very sound
understanding of technical matters," he said.

"Robert is a rough diamond we want to polish up into a winning driver."

BMW said an announcement on their test and reserve driver would be made later in
the year. Germany's Sebastian Vettel, who started the season in that role, is
now racing for Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso.

Not only was he swiftly promoted to a race drive after the departure of former
champion Jacques Villeneuve, but he has also celebrated a podium finish and
walked away from the most spectacular crash Formula One racing has seen in
years. It’s no wonder then that BMW Sauber have signed him for another year…

Q: How do you feel you have progressed over the last 18 months?
Robert Kubica: I have always tried to do my best and I guess I have improved -
in this sport you always have to take it a step further. Obviously, I have done
enough to stay with the team for 2008.

Holocaust hero Bielski accused, denies swindling 93-year-old
neighbor in Florida
By The Associated Press
Tags: Bielski brothers, Holocaust
In Eastern Europe during World War II, Aron Bielski and his three
older brothers mounted what was, by most accounts, the biggest armed
rescue of Jews by Jews during the Holocaust.
The Bielski brothers were acclaimed as heroes, and their exploits
were chronicled in books, a documentary and a Hollywood movie coming
out next year. But now, the sole surviving Bielski brother is being
called something far different - a con man.
Now 80 and known as Aron Bell, he has been arrested on charges of
swindling a 93-year-old woman, a Catholic survivor of the Holocaust.
Bell and his wife, Henryka, 58, are accused of tricking the old
woman into giving them control of more than $250,000 in various bank
accounts.
According to police, the couple then convinced the woman they were
taking her on a vacation to her native Poland, and instead put her
in a nursing home there and returned to Palm Beach.
The charges against the couple carry up to 90 years in prison.
Bell's attorney has strongly denied the allegations and said the old
woman was going senile.
During the 1941 Nazi invasion of what was then the Soviet Union in
which they thousands of Jews were killed or imprisoned, the Bielski
brothers fled their home near Stankiewicze, now in Belarus, and hid
in the forest.
Over a thousand armed fighters and Jewish families joined the
brothers' encampment and a resistence movement emerged.

"To save a Jew is much more important than to kill Germans," Tuvia
Bielski would tell his followers, differentiating the Bielski
movement from the majority of partisan groups.

Relatives said they are shocked at the charges against Aron Bell. "I
don't believe it," said Zvi Bielski, 56, of New York City, Zus'
son. "It's totally out of character."My dad was like his father
during the war. I can't imagine what happened," he added.

Authorities said the Bells befriended the elderly Janina Zaniewska,
who was once imprisoned by the Nazis alongside Jews in Poland. She
lived in the same Palm Beach condominium complex as the Bells.

The couple persuaded her to give them power of attorney over her
bank accounts, investigators said.

In May, the Bells flew with Zaniewska to Poland under the guise of
taking her to visit old friends, police said. The Bells dropped her
at a nursing home and returned to Palm Beach.

Police were contacted in August by a bank manager who wondered why
the Bells were withdrawing Zaniewska's money. Police eventually
found Zaniewska at the nursing home.

"Thank God you found me," police said she told authorities. She
returned to the U.S. in early October and prosecutors charged the
Bells with scheming to defraud Zaniewska, exploitation of the
elderly and theft.

"This whole notion that the Bells sent this poor lady to Poland so
they could steal her money is just preposterous," said the couple's
attorney, Steven Gomberg, adding that the Bells were financially
comfortable and intended to aid Zaniewska with her finances as her
mental capacity diminished.

"We have people here, elderly people, in their 90s who are losing
their faculties and have financial assets that need to be preserved
and unfortunately have nobody else," Gomberg said. "There was
nothing stolen. She's not lost a penny," he added.

Ewa Chyra, director of the nursing home in Poland, said Zaniewska
was aware of where she was, what was going on, and who brought her
there but showed some confusion. "Zaniewska told various stories, so
one could doubt some of what she said," Chyra said. Zaniewska's
attorney, Robert Montgomery, said she has all her faculties but fell
victim to the Bells.

"They stole money from her, there's no question about that, pretty
much cleaned her out," Montgomery said. "She was taken advantage
of," he said. Aron Bell did not return repeated telephone messages.
Zaniewska's number is unpublished and efforts to reach her at her
condo were unsuccessful.

Dalej o Karbala i masakrach Sadama ,

Karbala is one of the great unknowns in this Iraq crisis - a short-lived
revolt by the city against Saddam Hussein was put down brutally in the weeks
after the Gulf War. As Iraq braces for a new war, many observers fear that
these people will rise up again.

Accounts differ. Human rights groups, diplomats and reporters have pieced
together shocking accounts of violence by both sides in 1991.

The Shiites erupted from decades of oppression at the hand of Saddam's Sunni
regime, hanging 20 to 30 local leaders of the ruling Ba'ath Party in a prayer
room in the basement of the Imam Abass Mosque.

Saddam retaliated with a vengeance, unleashing the best of his surviving
troops with orders to bring into line both Karbala and neighbouring Najaf,
also a Shiite holy city because of the burial there in an equally beautiful
mosque of Imam Ali - the father of the imams buried at Karbala and a cousin
and brother-in-law of the prophet, Muhammad.

Much of the centre of Karbala was flattened - the shrines were badly damaged,
thousands of Shiite clerics were arrested and hundreds said to have been
executed; there was much indiscriminate shooting and townspeople were tied to
the regime's tanks as human shields.

In Najaf, the Shiite students were scattered and holy libraries destroyed; and
later, a highway was built across Wadi Salam, the biggest cemetery in the
Middle East.

Visitors to Karbala in the early 1990s likened the damage to the results of a
bad earthquake, which Shiites say was intended to break the spirit of their
demands for a representative say in the running of the country.

Since then the shrine cities have had the carrot and stick treatment. Saddam
donated hundreds of kilograms of gold to refurbish the shrines and he has
rebuilt the centre of Karbala.

But, according to the United Nations Commission for Human Rights, high-ranking
clerics continue to die in strange circumstances, often in traffic accidents.
A UN report says: "These murders are part of a systematic attack on the
independent leadership of Shiite Muslims in Iraq." Officials in Karbala
dismiss this as a US plot and an attempt to stoke civil war.

Syed Saheb Naseralah, the manager of the Imam Abass Mosque, produced a family
tree to show that Saddam, too, was of the imam's family, before
insisting: "Everything in Karbala is different now - there will not be a
repeat of 1991. It was the US that damaged the shrines."

And an information official at the Karbala governate office, Kazum Al Aradi,
said that Saddam had insisted money was no object when it came to repairing
the damaged city.

"There was civil war. But it was caused by Iranians and bad people who came
here to do bad things. Many people died," he said. "But it will not happen
again because the people here voted for Saddam. How could these people do
anything against Saddam when he has done so much for the city?

"They have promised him that Karbala will become a cemetery for any American
or Australian soldiers who get this far into Iraq. You can ask anyone in the
streets and they will tell you."

Indeed they did. Fifty senior clerics signed a petition of support for Saddam
in their own blood and people in the streets said that all of Iraq would fight
for their president.

But away from the hearing of the government "guides" who accompany foreign
reporters, several Shiites confided that they still have vivid memories of
Washington's failure to back them and the punishment they got from Saddam back
in 1991.

But whatever the memories, Karbala is a dangerous place for most observers -
especially for Saddam.

Tottenham - Man City. Czy którejś z tych drużyn...
hmmmm ... kiedy City wygralo z Liverpoolem ? bo cos kojarze ze byl remis 2-2

;-)

Four second half goals saw Manchester City hold Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in a
pulsating encounter at Anfield.

Martin Skrtel deservedly opened the scoring five minutes into the second
period when the commanding centre-back poked an inviting Steven Gerrard centre
into the Anfield Road End net to claim his first ever strike for the club.

But Emmanuel Adebayor levelled for the visitors with a glancing header from a
corner with just over twenty minutes remaining on the clock.

The two teams then traded goals within the space of a minute as Stephen
Ireland tapped City into the lead, but Yossi Benayoun instantly equalised for
Liverpool, tucking home from close quarters after good work by David Ngog to
secure a point for Rafa Benitez's side.

Liverpool were able to name Gerrard in their starting XI for the first time
since mid-October, and the Reds' squad was also bolstered by the presence of
Benayoun, Albert Riera, Fabio Aurelio and Nabil El Zhar on the substitutes'
bench - but Glen Johnson was absent.

The game got underway with Liverpool determined to put a run of one win in
nine matches firmly behind them, whilst also denting City's aspirations of
breaking into the top four come May.

With strong wind and rain swirling around inside Anfield, the Reds made a
promising opening and Skrtel forced a fine early save from Shay Given with a
powerful header from Gerrard's free-kick.

The chance came at a cost to the home side, however, as Daniel Agger was
stretchered from the field after a clash of heads with City centre-back Kolo
Toure as the pair both attempted to reach the initial ball into the area.

With the defender unable to resume, Sotirios Kyrgiakos was introduced into the
action after just eleven minutes, but not before Pepe Reina palmed a Gareth
Barry header to safety with the home side down to ten men.

Fresh from helping his country reach the 2010 World Cup finals at the expense
of Ukraine in midweek, it was the Greek's first run out at Anfield since his
summer switch from AEK Athens.

But injuries have plagued Liverpool's campaign so far, and the problem showed
no signs of letting up when Ryan Babel hobbled off on 17 minutes after failing
to recover from a strong challenge by Nigel De Jong.

Benayoun was his replacement and with Holland's assistant manager Philip Cocu
watching on from the directors' box, it was also something a personal blow for
the 22-year-old who had started the game brightly on the left.

As the half-hour mark loomed, Liverpool threatened again as Gerrard smashed a
volley narrowly over the crossbar at the second attempt after his initial
effort from Kuyt's flick had been blocked by Toure.

Soon after, Kuyt saw a strike of his own deflected for a corner via Wayne
Bridge, and from the resulting flag kick, Benayoun diverted the ball
harmlessly wide on the stretch.

City had rarely looked like troubling Reina, and the No.25 remained unemployed
when Shaun Wright-Phillips skewed wide from the corner from the box.

With Lucas Leiva and Javier Mascherano in control of midfield, the Reds
continued to probe, but the City rearguard stood firm, even with six minutes
of first half injury time played.

The second period began in similar fashion and Gerrard's drive from Kuyt's
cutback was well blocked by Joleon Lescott in the opening exchanges.

But the deadlock was finally broken on 50 minutes as Skrtel got ahead of
Adebayor to prod Gerrard's dangerous free-kick from the left beyond Given at
close-range with his right boot.

It was the Slovak's first goal for Liverpool in his 65th appearance, and the
defender's joy was clear for all to see.

City's response saw a succession of set-pieces pumped into the Reds' box and
it was from a corner that they forced their way back into the game on 69 minutes.

Adebayor atoned for his earlier error by meeting Craig Bellamy's inswinger
with a glancing header to beat Reina from an unmarked position.

City took the lead seven minutes later when Wright-Phillips spun beyond
Kyrgiakos and slid the ball across goal for Ireland to tap home.

Their lead lasted less than a minute as Liverpool responded instantly.
Benayoun stole a march on the visitors' defenders to slip Ngog's inviting
right wing cross to the back post into an unguarded net.

Both sides pressed in search of a winner, with Lucas coming closest with a
stoppage-time header, but neither were able to find the decisive strike and
the Reds were forced to settle for a second consecutive 2-2 Anfield draw.

swindling 93-year-old neighbor in Florida. By The Associated Press

Sacramento?
Pozdr

1. Chicago's No. 7 overall pick and Dalibor Bagaric to Sacramento for Hedo
Turkoglu and a future protected No. 1 pick. The Kings need to begin preparing
for the end of Vlade Divac. They need a young big man they can nurture, like
Chris Kaman or Maciej Lampe. They were hurt when Pavel Podkolzine pulled out
of the draft since they could have given him three years to develop with all
of their depth. The Bulls need a small forward who's ready to play, and while
Turkoglu is not their idea of a defender, they don't want any more rookies.
The Kings are so far into the luxury tax they cannot afford to give Turkoglu
an extension and need to deal him. Also, Jim Jackson beat him out of a
rotation spot last season, which is not good news to the Bulls or anyone
seeking Turkoglu.

2. Terrell Brandon, Anthony Peeler and Minnesota's No. 1 pick to Portland for
Rasheed Wallace. Hey, the Timberwolves haven't had a No. 1 pick in so long
they wouldn't know what to do with it, anyway. One small contract might need
to be added to equalize the deal. Priority No. 1 in Portland is saving some
money and cleaning up the team's image. Priority No. 1 in Minnesota is
keeping Kevin Garnett, which means getting out of the first round of the
playoffs. Wallace is difficult (OK, more than that), but the Wolves are
desperate. Wallace also is a great talent who doesn't want to be the No. 1
guy. Teamed with Garnett, they could be a fearsome front line. Portland gets
oodles of savings in the luxury tax with Brandon's $11.15 million salary
coming off the books in January, thus saving Portland virtually double that
with luxury tax. The Blazers also are ready to hand the power forward job to
Zach Randolph, so it's time to send Wallace on his way. And only the
desperate will put up with him.

3. Eddie Jones and Miami's fifth overall pick to Memphis for Stromile Swift
and Wesley Person. Pat Riley doesn't want any more rookies! The Heat get
Swift (a young, athletic forward) and a veteran shooter in Person, who also
has just one year left on his deal. It gives the Heat a chance to dip deep
into free agency after next season (when Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Elton
Brand hit the market) with Jones off the books. The Grizzlies are desperate
to make some noise. General manager Jerry West always has liked Jones, whom
he had in Los Angeles. Plus West, who has been a master of pulling talent out
of an empty draft hat over the years, gets the No. 5 pick. He has liked
Frenchman Mickael Pietrus, who has been described as having Michael Jordan-
like athletic ability and is considered an NBA class defender now. Paired
with Jones, Mike Miller and Gasol, the Grizzlies could make some noise in the
West.

4. Allan Houston for Eddie Griffin, Cuttino Mobley and Glen Rice. The Rockets
get Houston, who is the shooter and the veteran to complement Steve Francis
and open the floor for Yao Ming. It gives them three potential All-Stars to
make a run in the West and Houston will be a locker room presence for new
coach Jeff Van Gundy. Houston in Houston. Is that perfect, or what? The
Knicks need an infusion of young talent and get Griffin, Mobley and Rice.
Rice is going into the final year of his contract, so the Knicks save
millions in the luxury tax after next season. Mobley and the 6-foot-10
Griffin are two youngsters who they can begin building with along with the
No. 9 overall pick in this draft, which they could now use for a young point
guard to go with shooting guard Mobley.

5. Antonio Davis, Morris Peterson and Toronto's fourth overall pick to Dallas
for Steve Nash and Raef LaFrentz. The Mavericks get Davis, the tough guy and
post presence they need. He's a little small for the Western Conference, but
he's rugged and can battle the bigger forwards in the West. The Mavs also get
the Raptors' No. 4 overall pick to get a project big guy they can wait for,
like Chris Kaman. The key in the deal is Steve Nash, the British Columbia
native, returning to Canada. Nick Van Exel was on the court at the end of all
the Mavs' big playoff games, and Nash comes up for a new deal after the 2004-
05 season. Better to trade Nash a year soon. The Raptors also get Raef
LaFrentz, who'll fit better in the East away from the Mavs' frenetic game.
Toronto would be so thrilled to get Nash, a potential franchise savior, it
would probably throw in whomever the Mavs wanted, perhaps Peterson or to
expand the deal if the Mavs want Alvin Williams and would send back someone
like Evan Eschmeyer.

W uzupełnieniu, przesyłam artykuł o Delphi w Krakowie.
Tu jest napisane czarno na białym. Polscy inżynierowie pracują lepiej i dłużej
mieszkanie. Drudzy wznoszą w górę patriotyczne sztandary i krzyczą o
traktowaniu Polaków jak białych murzynów.

Delphi: Engineering center in Poland

Edmund Chew
Automotive News Europe

Many suppliers are moving production to low-cost central Europe, but Delphi
Automotive was the first to set up a modern engineering center in the region.

Delphi recently opened a new technical center in Krakow, Poland, in part
because engineers are plentiful and less expensive in Poland.

The cost of employing engineers is about a third of the expense in western
Europe, says Delphi country manager Lezcek Waliszewski.

"We were curious to find out the level of quality and productivity of the
engineers," he says.

So far, Waliszewski says that the work force is meeting expectations. And just
as important, engineers are available in Poland.

Waliszewski estimates that every year 6,000 to 7,000 engineers graduate within
a 50km radius of Krakow.

The Krakow center employs 120 Polish engineers. Four expatriate employees are
based there. Staff will increase to 250 to 300 after the completion of a $25
million (29.15 million euros) first phase of the development in 2003, says
Waliszewski.

The center is specializing in suspension systems, but also works on switches
and connectors, and has a growing focus on automotive software.

Krakow engineers will work on product-based design and development,
benchmarking, testing and validation.

Project gains momentum

Delphi began thinking about putting a center in Poland in 1995, says
Waliszewski. But the project didn''t gain momentum until early 1997, when
Delphi''s chassis division began to look seriously at the idea.

When the project was approved in late 1997 other Delphi divisions got involved.
The site in Krakow was selected in April 1998.

Delphi was already one of the largest suppliers in Poland. Delphi''s sales in
Poland grew from $21 million in 1995 to over $200 million in 2000. Delphi
currently has 5,100 employees at six manufacturing sites in the country.

The center works entirely for customers based outside Poland, as there is no
car development underway in the country.

The work is organized like Delphi''s other 30 technical centers around the
world, except that employees work a 42-hour week - longer than at most other
centers.

Dear Mr.Sikorski

I'm so greatful of your comment.
I strongly believe as I see you too in power of consistance, selfdestiny,
knowledge and determination of my mother nation. I can not say the same about
other comments.
I strongly believe also that poles can put their spirit and innovative mind in
aerospace industry, that it is not out of rich to take significant part in
industry which is pride of our ancestors.
I can not agree more with all of your comments and it is difficult to add
anything.
Americans are famous of using every contract discrepancy in their favour.
Poles can make planes, they use to make magnificent gliders,, they build, as
you very likely know, the best of bombers on start of the IIWW. They are still
trying eg I22 or Iskierka, Bryza, Orlik, Manager and more.
But, what I see now there is no patriotism, no goodwill, no selfdestiny nor
consequence. Eg Iryda. I do not know details, but do I have to? If army do not
support own industry, prefering to quarrel and rise their egoism and, if
manufacturers are ignoring market requirements, polticians do not care and do
not have guts to be consequent and work as they supposed to for country benefit
with mind open to the future it is difficult to expect much.
Let say I wish to Iryda to be finished, what else can I do. There had been a
number of interesting projects eg SPW as equivalent to A10, but far cheeper and
modern, prototype looked amasing, mut not much money was spend thus not much
harm was done. In case of I22 300mln$ got lost, that only imbecyl can
understand. For that, not any other reason I wish Mirage2000 will win and as
promised revitalized that project.
Korean plane (mentioned above) is practically scaled down F16 - I do not mind
poles go the same way.
I wish at list at that scale of contract something will enlightened them and
will be with great benefit to put poles into positien spain is now in aero
industry at least.
I live in Canada. In late fifties canadian company Avro design and build state
of the art plane Avro Arrow, test flying by polish/canadian hero Zurakowski
(there is even coin minted in his honour). Project was killed, we can only
guess that it was done by US the way even prototypes had to be destroyed
(instead of serving as a base for future design) PM of Canada forse his company
to went bancrupt and 20000 higly skilled emplyers to seek work in ... US,
I just hope nothing like that will not happened in Poland.

Thank You for your time

With regards

Mietek M.

PS. Congratulation for succesful launch of scram device for Australia.

Final minutes of Columbia:

The latest information provided by NASA:
At 5:35 a.m. EST (1035 GMT) Columbia's clamshell-like payload bay doors were
closed and locked. Heat-dispelling radiator panels line the inside of the
doors, which must remain open for the majority of each shuttle mission.
At 6:50 a.m. EST (1150 GMT) commander Husband and pilot McCool donned their
orange launch and entry suits and then strapped themselves in to the front left
and right seats, respectively.

During the next hour or so the rest of the crew put on their suits and took
their seats as well.

Kalpana served as flight engineer and sat between the commander and pilot, just
behind them.

To the right of her was Clark.

The three remaining astronauts sat in the mid-deck underneath the flight deck.

While there was some brief discussion about fog at the landing site, the
weather was forecast to be ideal, and Columbia's crew was given a go to fire
the braking rockets that would commit the shuttle to its re-entry and touchdown.

At 7:15 a.m. CST, 8:15 a.m. EST (1315 GMT) Columbia fired its braking rockets
and began its descent from orbit.

Columbia's twin orbital maneuvering engines were fired for about two-and-a-half-
minutes, slowing the shuttle by about 176 mph, just enough to knock the
spaceship out of orbit.

At about 8:44 a.m. EST (1344 GMT) Columbia reached the 400,000-foot altitude
that NASA considers the beginning of Earth's atmosphere. The shuttle's outer
temperature began climbing but it would not reach its peak for another 15
minutes.

At 8:53 a.m. EST (1353 GMT) Mission Control detected the failure of a pair of
temperature sensors on the hydraulic system that moves the left wing's flaps.

At 8:56 a.m. EST (1356 GMT) a set of sensors inside the left-hand main landing
gear's wheel well saw a temperature increase in a brake line and the tires
themselves.

"During this time the vehicle is performing fine.
We had no indications of any problem," said Milt Heflin, a NASA mission
operations manager.

At 8:58 a.m. EST (1356 GMT) three more sensors in the left wing, these embedded
into the vehicle structure, appeared to fail.

At 8:59 a.m. EST (1359 GMT) another eight sensors on the left wing, these
measuring tire temperatures and pressures, also failed.

One of those sensor failures prompted an alert message to appear on the
shuttle's cockpit displays, as well as at Mission Control.
Following a routine procedure, astronaut Charlie Hobaugh radioed up to the
crew, "Columbia, Houston. We see your tire pressure message and we did not copy
your last."

"Roger. Uh..." Husband replied, but the transmission abruptly cut off.

No further word was heard and all data being automatically sent to Houston
suddenly stopped.

"As far as I know that was the last transmission from the crew," Heflin
said. "Then we lost all vehicle data."
It was 9 a.m. EST (1400 GMT).

Mission Control Center, Houston, Texas lost communications about 8 a.m.
Columbia was 207,135 feet (63,100 meters) over central Texas moving 18.3 times
the speed of sound, or more than 12,000 mph. There was no hope of any survivors.

ALVIERO MARTINI LAUNCHES THE NEW PERFUME GEO

Italian luxury house Alviero Martini, well known for its bag and luggage
collections, is preparing the launch of its new perfume, Geo. The fragrance,
available for both women and men, debuted in Italy at Alviero Martini
boutiques and hit the Italian stores in late March. Worldwide distribution is
scheduled to begin this coming May, first in the Middle East, where the brand
is already very popular, and later on in Europe, North America, and the Far
East. The perfume was developed by Pa.Co.Dis, a large cosmetics distributor
based in northern Italy. The packaging was created by French designer Thierry
Lecoule, who reinterpreted the geographic maps that symbolize and gave
notoriety to the Alviero Martini brand. Pa.Co.Dis and the designer, a native of
Piedmont, developed a fragrance characterized by earthy tones with a touch of
spicy and exotic oils. Like the company’s Prima Classe collection, the new
fragrance is “dedicated to the modern globetrotter who cultivates a passion for
travel and a curiosity for other cultures,” Fabrizio Zappavigna, marketing
manager of Pa.Co.Dis, underlines. “Our target are young professionals, from 25
years old on, that are fashion conscious and love to shop for new products.”
Alviero Martini launched its first scent, developed by French cosmetic group
VMF Mane and US developer International Flavors and Fragrances, in the late
1997. The company, based in Cuneo, has two boutiques in the United States, one
in New York, on Madison Avenue, and one located at the Mall at Millennia in
Orlando, Florida. Its products, from the bags and luggage to the clothing
collections, are also available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and
